My Story
I'm a pastor and an executive director here in Fresno. I love that work. But a few years back I realized my impact had a ceiling. One building. One congregation. One organization.
Meanwhile, everywhere I went, I kept meeting people with real gifts and no roadmap. They figured chasing the dream meant losing the paycheck. So the dream waited. Sometimes for years. Sometimes forever.
Nobody was asking them the one question that mattered. So I started asking it.
What do you actually want to do?
Most people go their whole lives without being seriously asked. They've been told plenty. What's practical. What's safe. What pays. But told isn't asked. And when someone finally asks, and actually waits for the answer, something wakes up. I've watched it happen.
I watched it in my own backyard in 2016, when I hosted a summit for young entrepreneurs. Courtney and Taiwan showed up with gifts they figured couldn't pay bills. Their dream stopped waiting that day. They built a tea business from scratch, sourcing the leaves, packaging it, selling it. They're still at it. Cindy came to that same summit. Her art had been waiting too. Now her murals are on walls across Fresno, bringing color to kids in neighborhoods that never had it.
Nobody handed them a shortcut. Somebody asked. Somebody took the answer seriously. And the dream got up off the shelf.
Here's something else you should know. I still work my 9-to-5. That's on purpose. I'm building Sinapi while I pastor and lead, the same way you'll build your business while you work your job. Your dream doesn't have to wait for a resignation letter. Mine didn't. I'm on the same road you are, funding the dream while keeping the paycheck, and I'm honest about that with everyone I serve.
The name Sinapi comes from the Greek word for mustard seed. Jesus said the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. The smallest seed in the garden grows into a tree big enough for birds to nest in its branches. That's what I believe about what's been waiting inside you. It starts small. It won't stay small.
One more thing I've learned: soil comes before seed. Character, clarity, and foundation come before paperwork and business plans. A dream that waited years deserves ground that can hold it. So that's where we start.
